PEOPLE & PLACE
This trip combines not only our favorite activities – hiking, rafting, yoga, and enjoying delicious food and wine – it also takes place in one of our favorite places in the country. The relaxed pace of this 4-day camp trip allows us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. We spend days relaxing on this incredibly scenic river, arrive at camp to our friendly guides setting up an incredible riverside dining experience, and end the day sleeping under the stars to the sounds of the river… it is simply magical.
We are thrilled to be offering these trips in partnership with Momentum River Expeditions. They are known as the best river outfitter in the area with friendly guides who have a minimum of five years of experience leading trips around the world, and who truly enjoy sharing the outdoors with their guests.
Momentum is also known for its food. They prepare three-course meals featuring local & organic produce and products. Their food is incredible: homemade, diverse, and served gourmet river-style!
These river trips are fully outfitted and include all the personal camping gear: tents, sleeping pads (over 3″ thick!), and sleeping bags. All you need to bring is your clothes and your toothbrush.
Our trip starts in Ashland, Oregon. Home to the world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival and ranked at the top of the “The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America,” Ashland is a cultural hot spot, with award-winning galleries, theaters, and restaurants all bursting at the seams. Nestled at the base of the Siskiyou and Cascade mountain ranges, Ashland has a reputation for great outdoor recreation, both in the city limits and beyond. Option: book a few days’ arrival ahead of time to explore this charming art and outdoor town!
Ashland is the home of MedTreks, so we are beyond excited to share this gem of a town and the surrounding area with our guests. Upon registration, we provide a detailed list of suggested local hikes, wineries, restaurants, and shows to enjoy during your visit.
The Rogue River: More Than Just Rafting
The Rogue is one of our favorite rivers in the world. The Wild & Scenic section of this river is particularly special because there is a beautiful trail that runs the entire length of the 40+ mile Wild & Scenic Section. This means that in the mornings you can wake up and go for an early morning run. You also have the option of walking the stretch of the river for the day instead of rafting, if you are up for a hiking adventure! We will be taking you on some incredible side hikes to amazing waterfalls. You will explore crystal clear creeks and fern canyons, just steps away from the beach where your tent awaits you. It’s a magical and stunning trip that combines the best of any wilderness adventure!
More About the Rogue River
Wild & Scenic
“The Rogue River is an iconic American classic, one of the country’s great summer wilderness trips, a founding member of the National Wild and Scenic River System, and a river with such a grand reputation that in some circles it is simply known as “the Canyon”. It flows through an area rich with pioneer history and lore – some of it surviving to this day in the form of remote, river-accessed, wilderness lodges and abandoned historic homesteads. The canyon itself is a stunning wilderness playground that is home to a staggering amount of wildlife and abundant whitewater. Momentum is based a short drive away from the Rogue and we are honored to have one of the best summer rafting trips in our backyard.
The Rogue River begins in the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness and Crater Lake National Park. It flows south west through the Cascades and then briefly touches civilization near the town of Grants Pass. We begin our trip just downstream right before the river plunges into the rugged and remote Siskiyou Mountains.
A trip down the Rogue has been compared to being in a “Planet Earth” movie. There are narrow canyons of polished rock, cool grottos draped in ferns, heavily forested hillsides, big sandy beaches, some of the best swimming holes anywhere, cascading waterfalls, and hikes up tumbling sidestreams. It is common to see bald eagles, osprey, otter, and black bear.
There are over 80 rapids and the whitewater is fun and exciting, yet safe. The rapids and the choice of craft make the Rogue almost unmatched in its ability to satisfy a wide range of tastes and skill levels. In fact, it is not uncommon to see trips enjoyed by three generations of family or friends. You have the choice of sitting in relaxing oar boats, participating in more exciting paddle boats, or navigating the whitewater in an inflatable kayak (this adds a big level of excitement to the rapids). Click below to read more about inflatable kayaking.
For all the grand descriptions and accolades heaped on the Rogue for many of the guides who grew up here, it is simply home – a place to recharge, relax, and live simply. At the end that alone might say the most about this place.”
