Wilderness Medicine & River Skills Course

Join us for a 3 night, 4-day MedTreks river course on the Wild & Scenic California Salmon River in Northern California! This skills course and multi-sport weekend combines wilderness medicine, river workshops, deluxe camping and whitewater rafting! Designed for anyone wanting to get more training and skills around rivers and whitewater. Our group meets in Ashland, Oregon. We provide roundtrip transportation to the incredible Cal Salmon riverside base camp, our home for three nights. All you have to do is bring clothing and your toothbrush- we take care of the rest.

    The "Cal Salmon Experience"

    The ultimate luxury, multi-sport adventure camp trip. Think comfortable, walk-in tents, gourmet riverside meals, fun and exciting whitewater, campfires under the stars, sauna, and hot showers… this trip is hard to beat! Nestled in a remote and pristine wild region in California’s northwest corner, the California Salmon River is hidden about halfway between San Francisco and Portland, Oregon. The “Cal Salmon” combines beautiful, lush coastal scenery, an intimate, marble-smooth, granite inner gorge, a seemingly endless number of waterfalls cascading from above, emerald-green waters, a very comfortable pop-up base camp with hot showers, a wood-fired sauna, and unequaled class IV-V fun whitewater.

    The wood fired sauna provides a cozy way to unwind after a great day on the river before tucking into your sleeping bag at night. Hot showers are also part of the sauna experience!

    Our riverside camp is located on one of the most beautiful stretches of river in Northern California. You may choose to explore the surrounding area or taking an early morning jog deep inside the river canyon. It is remote and no other place is like it.

    Learn Skills You Can Take Anywhere in the World

    This course is a Wilderness Medicine and Whitewater Skills course. It is designed to provide individuals with a robust skillset in wilderness medicine and river safety. Participants will have the option to certify as an Advanced Wilderness Life Support provider, however, this course offers much more than the AWLS certification- it combings rafting, kayaking, swift water rescue skills, paddling skills, ropes and knots and even touches on some basic survival topics.     Can loved ones and non-medical guests attend? 

    Yes! We welcome friends, family and loved ones to attend.

    Optional WFA for non-medical professionals:

    Non-medical professionals are also invited to take the Wilderness First Aid course as part of this cruise. Our WFA course is designed to provide an individual with an introduction to wilderness medicine and the basic skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the wilderness. This program is appropriate for entry-level professional guides and other non-medical people who want a basic understanding of wilderness medicine.

    Yes! As long as the trip is booked before the final payment is due (90 days before trip start). A non-refundable deposit secures your spot on the trip.

    Our CME trips are all accredited for physicians, NPs, PAs and also provide CEUs for Nurses. We provide course information for all the courses that you can submit to your employer. After the trip/course is complete, we provide you with a CME certificate within 2-4 weeks

    We provide you with a comprehensive Welcome Package that includes a packing list, resources, course materials, and helpful travel tips for your upcoming adventure.

    Yes! We welcome loved ones and non-medical guests. They are welcome to attend all of our workshops and lectures while on the trip at no further cost. Some of our trips are even kid-friendly, depending on the trip and age of your children. Please send us an email to inquire about this possibility.

    This is a luxury style camp trip with walk in tents, cots, sleeping pads and pillows. Our base camp for the 3 nights is located on the California Salmon River. The camp also has a wood-fired sauna and hot showers!
