Lions Bluff Lodge
Lions Bluff is a secluded and exclusive lodge suspended on the edge of a Bluff, overlooking miles and miles of Africa. Featuring just fourteen traditionally-built ensuite bandas with verandas from where you can sip sundowners with Kilimanjaro as your backdrop whilst watching the abundant wildlife on the vast plains below.
Benefit the community, preserve the sanctuary. Experience the most incredible panoramic view of Africa. Fall asleep to the sounds of the animals..awake to Africa’s incredible sunrise.
Game Drives at Lions Bluff:
Lions Bluff offers optimum game-driving experiences with 4 of the big 5 (no Rhino) and a wide variety of the plains game from the giants of Tsavo the “Red Elephant” to the small Dik Dik antelope. Game drives usually start with a cup of tea at sunrise returning for a late Breakfast and again after afternoon tea at 4pm returning as the sun sets near Kilimanjaro. You can also choose to have sundowners in the Sanctuary at one of several stunning view points.
Nature Trail around Lions Bluff
Meander around Lions Bluff and discover tracks and signs of the bush. Learn which roots and leaves are edible, which are used by the local people to treat tummy aches or put spells on your enemies. Examine spider nests, collect quartz rock, or leaves to make a refreshing tea. Identify birds by their call and watch them in the bush.
To really appreciate all the Lions Bluff has to offer, you have to leave the safari vehicle behind; and take a walk. Slow in pace, wide-ranging in scenery, led by one of our trained safari guides, our guided walks are designed to offer a fascinating insight into the world of African trees, flowers, insects, reptiles, birds and animals. Tickle up a baboon spider, or ant lion, learn the art of tracking and how to tell which animals were there before you, learn how to light a fire without the use of matches, fire an arrow using arrows poisoned with desert rose sap, which roots to use when you have diarrhea… our guides’ knowledge is amazing and their enthusiasm infectious.
Night Game Drive: a glimpse into the nocturnal theatre of the wild
A uniquely specialized activity, which is usually not permitted within the boundaries of the national parks and reserves, a night game drive is the ultimate safari luxury. Leaving the lodge either before or after dinner, you will be provided with warm ‘shukas’ (Maasai wraps); before setting off to discover the creatures of the night. This is the exclusive domain of hunters such as lions and leopards, and the only time when you may catch a glimpse of such elusive nocturnal creatures as aardvark and Lumo’s melanistic serval cat.
Ornithological Walk: Discover the diversity of African birdlife
With over 1,070 species of birds, Kenya has the second-highest country bird list in Africa, the area around Tsavo West boasts 600 recorded species. Ranging from giant herons to tiny sunbirds, the diversity of African birdlife is startling in its color and vibrancy. The Lions Bluff area boasts a number of endemic species, such as the globally threatened Taita Thrush, Taita White-eye, Taita Apalis, Abbott’s starling and the Southern Banded Snake Eagle.
