Education. Empowerment. Sustainability.

For the past several years, MedTreks has been partnering with Village HopeCore International (Hopecore), a community health and development program located on the slopes of Mt. Kenya.

We have been fortunate to have some of MedTreks core faculty be part of HopeCore’s program since its inception in 2001. MedTreks fully supports HopeCore’s horizontal and integrative approach to healthcare delivery and poverty eradication. Their program is a future model for other resource-limited regions of the world. For the past 19 years, HopeCore has been changing thousands of lives through their services.

Public Health Impact:

  • 45,000 students now have clean drinking water
  • 23,500 mosquito nets have been distributed
  • 24,000 mothers have received health education
  • 200 schools receive regular health clinics from HopeCore

HopeCore’s Approach:

HopeCore is dedicated to fostering integrated social and economic development in rural communities. We are working to alleviate poverty through microfinance loans and micro enterprise, business, training and support, health promotion, and disease prevention programs.

We describe our approach to poverty eradication through the three-legged African stool, without one of the legs the stool will fall, similarly without the combination of income generation, disease prevention, capacity building, poverty will continue to have a negative impact on communities.

Through the integration of health interventions, both preventative and curative, health education, micro loans, skills-based training, and staff capacity building, HopeCore is reducing the burden of poverty for vulnerable populations in the Maara Sub County.
